The city of Fort Myers has a great Florida nickname, “The City of Palms” – and for good reason. Its most famous resident, Thomas Edison, along  with his wife and close family friends, were the first to plant palm trees on both sides of the  major roads that led into and out of town. Today, the Edison Estate, along with his neighbor’s estate, Henry Ford, are two of Fort Myers biggest  tourist attractions. But, perhaps the most popular attraction is the Gulf of Mexico, and its miles of sandy white beaches.
